First things first, I am a TERRIBLE blogger. I am not very consistent in my updating, but hopefully I will have lots to talk about in the near future. So I am pledging to update at least once per week. I know it's not much, but it's better than nothing!
Matthew and I were high school sweethearts and have been a couple for nearly 14 years. 8 of those years have been spent in wedded bliss! Seriously, we love being married! Best thing we have ever done! We finished college before getting married in 2005. Matthew is a teacher at a local Christian academy, and I am a registered nurse. We love to spend time together. I couldn't think of anyone better to share my life with. We have always wanted to have a family but knew that it would be a struggle, because infertility runs in my family. My mother struggled and my older sister struggles and has not been successful.
Early 2012, I went to her doctor to talk about options and he suggested that Matthew be tested because, "it's just good business" he said. "It would almost be pointless to test you and not know if your husband struggles too." He gave us the stats for male infertility. Blah. Blah. Blah. We went along with it, but NEVER dreamed we would be told that Matthew could not have children either. We were shocked. Heartbroken.
But, let's back up just a bit. Before all this testing started, we had been praying for God to guide us in this journey. Keeping in the back of our minds that it would be a struggle for me to get pregnant. Again, never dreaming that we would be told that Matthew couldn't have children. We asked ourselves these questions: How far would be take the testing? How far would we go with medical intervention? If we are going to spend thousand on infertility, shouldn't we just put that towards adoption? We asked God to show us what we should do and if we should do more than just consider adoption.
So when we were given the news of Matthew's infertility we were very upset and grieved that we would not be able to create a life together, but we knew almost immediately that we needed to proceed with adoption. We rejoiced in the fact that the Lord already knows our sweet baby and we will meet him or her in His perfect timing. We had an overwhelming feeling of peace. We know without a doubt that adoption is how the Lord intended to expand our family!
We ask that you remember us in your prayers as we walk this journey. We have no idea what is to come, but we are confident that we will be parents. God's timing is perfect and we will face a lot of situations before the one that will lead to our baby. Pray that our heart s are guarded and we focus on the Lord's voice. We want to seek Him first before any decision are made.
We are using Lifeline Children's Services as our agency. We have been very please with them thus far. You can learn more about them here. Adoption is very expensive. The cost averages around $25,000. We (with the Lords guidance and help) with be fundraising 2013 to help offset the cost. We had a couple of small fundraisers in the fall of 2012, but we are planning more for this spring.
I have a page on facebook Tiny Shoes to Fill. I make burlap door hangers and paint canvases. Look for me and like the page. If you would to place an order just send me a private message through the page.
Thank you to all of our family and friends for your support and encouragement. Thank you to those that we have not met personally, but are praying for us and encouraging us through our friends and family! You make this journey so much easier!
